Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Dramani Mahama has stated that he is confident in his capability to tackle the rising food prices and other economic issues confronting the country.

In a post on X on Sunday, September 22, 2024, Mahama assured Ghanaians that he has a detailed plan to reduce the daily rises in food prices that have been weighing on households nationwide.

Mahama attributed the rising prices of food and essential goods to what he called poor economic management by the current government. He stressed the importance of immediate and effective actions to address the issue.

Referencing his previous experience as President, Mahama emphasized his understanding of the economic landscape and his ability to reverse the current downturn and stabilize food prices.

“I am clear on what needs to be done to stop the daily increases in the price of food and other essential goods due to the economic mismanagement by the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration. We need to alleviate the hardship faced by people and return to a time of price stability. As outlined in the Resetting Ghana Manifesto, we will implement key interventions to reset the economy and prepare it for growth,” he tweeted.

His proposed strategy focuses on increasing agricultural productivity, ensuring farmers have access to affordable inputs, and strengthening domestic food supply chains to help reduce inflationary pressures.

Additionally, Mahama pledged to implement wider economic policies designed to lower the cost of living, enhance livelihoods, and create sustainable job opportunities for young people.

He also urged Ghanaians to back the NDC in the upcoming 2024 elections, stressing that the party’s vision is centered on achieving economic stability and equitable growth.
